How to view a student property

All properties that are available for let are advertised on our website in the student properties section. Browse the website or download and print off the list. Download property list here.

It is generally accepted for our students to call directly at the properties they are interested in.

First view the area and the house from the outside. If you are still interested, make an appointment to view the house with the whole group.

If nobody is at home, leave a note with your e-mail address/phone no. and ask them to contact you with a suitable time to view or call/e-mail ignite-properties to arrange viewings. 

To secure a property

This is a fast moving market and will operate on a strictly first come first served basis.

When the group has decided on a suitable property, we will require a £75.00 non-refundable administration fee per student.

A completed application form will be required for each student at the time of booking the property. Download student application form here.

We require your name/address and all your contact numbers and your parent/guardian details as they will be expected to guarantee payments of your rent should it fall more than fourteen days in arrears. Admistration charges for rent will be made if the rent is not paid promptly.

Note: A property cannot be booked until the administration fee and the application forms are completed.

After booking the property, the property will be reserved as long as, within 5 working days we have:

- The group to sign the tenancy agreement.
- One months rent as deposit.
- NUS card for each student.
- Confirmation letter from your tutor/head of department confirming student status at the university.

Tenancy agreements


The Tenancy Agreement starts from September 1st for all contracts.

A sample of the contract is supplied to the advice and welfare officer at the university.

The Deposit

A month's deposit will be held by the DPS. (Deposit Protection Scheme)

This will be returned at the end of the tenancy provided there is no dispute between the landlord and tenants.

Rent Payments

We advise one person in each household to collect in all the rent.

We do not accept payment via debit or credit card.

All rent paid is to be sent via cheque or  through the bank via BAC's transfer.

The rent is normally due on or around the 1st of the month, which for 2 months in September ( for the first and the eleventh month) , then followed by quarterly payments in October, January and April.
